Astm B474. Standard specifications of nickel and nickel alloy welded pipe.
Application Area
ASTM Specification B474 specifies butt-welded pipe (electrically fused) intended for use in high temperature, or potentially corrosive environments. In commercial practice, it is generally limited to nominal diameter sizes of at least 8 inches (203 mm).
Five classes of pipe are included in the specification
- (1) Pipe shall be butt welded in two-sided joints using metal pouring on all passes, with mandatory radiographic inspection.
- 2) Pipe shall be butt welded with a double-sided weld using metal pouring in all passes. No radiography is required.
- 3 Pipe shall be welded with a one-sided weld using surfacing in all passes, with mandatory radiographic control.
- 4. Same type of welding as for Class 3 pipe, except that no surfacing may be used in the welding passages of the inner surface of the pipe.
- 5. The pipe shall be welded with a double-sided weld using metal surfacing on all passes. Local radiographic inspection is required.
