Leaded brass

Technical characteristics

60-75% copper, 0.6-3% lead, up to 30% zinc. Easily workable by pressure, as well as by cutting on lathes with formation of small chips, that's why lead brass is often called automatic. A distinction is made between lead α-brass, which is only machinable in cold condition, and β-brass, which is pressure machinable in hot condition.

Marking

The composition of this brass alloy contains an additional component - lead. At the same time, the alloy is marked with two letters. After the letter L is written the first letter of the metal, which is additionally included in the composition. After that, the percentage of copper content is indicated. If there are several additional elements in the composition, their percentage is written in numbers with a dash.

Cold machining

Turning, milling, grinding, drilling.

Applications

Due to its high antifriction properties, it is used in the transport engineering and heavy machine tool industry for the production of moving parts operating in friction conditions, as well as in watchmaking and printing.

Storage

Stored in covered or roofed warehouses where it is adequately protected from mechanical and other types of damage.
