Production and application
12X18H9T steel is an austenitic class chromium-nickel alloy. It is melted in electric arc furnaces. Production is regulated by the following GOSTs: 18 143−72; 5632−72;18 907−73; 4405−75; 5949−75;5582−75; 7350−77; 4986−79; 25054−81; 9940−81; 9941−81; and also TU 14−1-377−72, 14−1-416−72 and 14−1-565−84. Such steel is used in welded structures (heat exchangers, vessels) operating in dilute solutions of HNO3, medium concentrations of organic acids, organic solvents, under the action of soil and atmospheric moisture, cryogenic temperatures up to -196 ° C. It is used in power engineering industry at temperatures up to +600°C, e.g. for heat-exchange fittings of TVEL with water coolant, turbine blades, compressor and pump parts.

Corrosion resistance
According to GOST 7350−77, 18 143−72, 5945−75 this steel is resistant to intergranular corrosion. When tested by the method AM, AMU GOST 6032−89: after an hour of heating to 650 ° C sample is immersed in a control solution for 24 and 8 hours, respectively. Steel is resistant to oxidation in the air and in the combustion atmosphere up to 900 ° C, as well as under heat up to 800 ° C Steel is heat-resistant at t ° 600−800 ° C.
Process parameters
The 8-ferrite content should be taken into account in hot work. Castings with 20% or more 8-ferrite are heated to 1250 °C, those containing 16−19% are heated to 1255 °C; those containing less than 16% are heated to 1270 °C. Generally, the pressure treatment is carried out at 1180−850 °C. Heating and cooling rates are not limited. A high degree of plastic deformation is possible in the cold state. To relieve the stress of welds they are subjected to stabilizing annealing (850−900 ° C).
Welding
When automatic submerged-arc welding or argon-arc welding wire Sv-08Cr19Ni10B, Sv-05Cr20Ni9FBS, Sv-04Cr22Ni10BT andWith manual welding — type EA-1F2 electrodes CL-2B2, GL-2, EA-606/11 with a wire Св-05Х19Н9ФЗС2, Св-05Х19Н9ФЗС2 and Св-08Х19Н9Ф2S2. Wire Sv-08Х20Н9S2BTU in shielding gas is used for manual automatic welding.
Electrodes CL-11 and CL-9 with wire rod Св-07Х19Н10Б and Св-07Х25Н13 respectively are used for manual arc welding. When tested according to AM and AMU GOST 6032−89 without provoking heating, these electrodes give the weld resistance to general as well as intergranular corrosion in 65% HNO3 at 70−80 ° C. Admittedly, the welds may be prone to knife corrosion. The welds obtained with CL-11 and CL-9 electrodes have, respectively: σv=550 and 600 N/mm2; KCU=80 and 70 J/cm2;δ=22 and 2%.
