Relevance

Grade 03Х24Н6АМ3 refers to chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels of austenitic-ferritic class. Production is regulated by the following TU 14−1-3880−84, 14−1-4372−87, 14−1-5021−91, 302.02.095−90. This steel is used in the manufacture of welded equipment for the synthesis of caprolactam, urea, extractable phosphoric acid, as well as complex mineral fertilizers, for equipment that operates in sulfuric, nitric and phosphoric acid environments, as well as in environments rich in chlorides and hydrogen sulfide. This steel is very strong, it can be used in conditions of corrosive and erosive wear. The operating temperature range is from -40 to 300 °C.

Corrosion resistance

According to TU 14−1-3467−82 and 14−1-3880−84, this steel is resistant to intergranular corrosion when tested by the method of VU GOST 6032−89. These tests are carried out after provoking heating to 550 °C for one hour. During the test by DU method GOST 6032−89 in the hardened state the rate of corrosion in each of the 5 cycles must not exceed 0,5 mm/year. Rate of corrosion of base metal and welds (made by means of manual arc welding) in 32% extraction phosphoric acid at 90 °C for 100−500 hours does not exceed 0,1 g/(m²h). In 10−35% H2SO4 at tº up to 90 °C, the corrosion rate is up to 0.1 mm/yr. In solutions of 10−90% H2SO4 at tº 20 to 90 °C. This steel by its corrosion resistance is not inferior to the alloy 06ХН28МДТ (ЭИ943).

Steel 03Cr24Ni6AMZ has a high pitting index (PI = 24% Cr + 6% Ni + 3.3% Mo), more than 33, which guarantees resistance to pitting corrosion in chloride environments. When tested under conditions of extractive phosphoric acid (up to 42% P2O5 + 1.5−2 g/l F + 10−18 g/l H2SO4) at 90 °C up to 4000 hours — the general corrosion rate of the hardened base metal, welds after provoking tempering (5 hours at 500−650 °C) is less than 0.1 mm/year. There is no intergranular corrosion.

The main technological parameters

Hot deformation is carried out at: t° 1200−900°C. Stamping is carried out in cold and hot state, in the range of 1100−900°С. In the cold state, the minimum radius of bending parts exceeds the thickness of the sheet by only 20%; and in the hot state, when heated to 850−950 ° C, the bending radius can be equal to the thickness.

Welding

This steel is well welded by manual argon arc and electric arc welding. The strength of welds relative to the base metal according to OST 26−291−79; is 0.85−0.9. At t=800°С the same coefficient is equal to 1, which allows to stamp welded workpieces. Static bending of the welded joints made by manual electric arc welding up to 130°, and by manual argon-arc welding up to 140°, at a rate of 100°.
