Aluminum sheet and plate grade selection

Aluminum sheet and plate are supplied in many alloy families and tempers with different strength, formability, corrosion behavior, machinability and weldability. The product name alone is not a complete specification. State the exact alloy designation, governing product standard and edition, temper and any accepted alternative. Grade equivalence should be confirmed from chemistry, properties and product requirements rather than assumed from a cross-reference name.

Dimensions, temper and inspection

Provide thickness, width, length or cut-blank drawing, dimensional tolerance, flatness, edge, surface finish, protective film and quantity. Include temper, tensile or hardness requirements, grain direction if relevant, ultrasonic or other inspection for plate, marking and certificate type. If the sheet will be formed, welded, anodized or machined, add the process and finished-part requirements. Availability, cutting method and minimum quantity are confirmed for the exact alloy and size during quotation.
