Production and application

Stainless chrome steel 95X18 is melted in open electric arc or induction furnaces. Production is regulated by GOST 5632-72; 4405-75 and 5949-75; and TU: 14-1-1848-75 и 14-1-4628-89. Strip and section steel is made by forging or rolling. Hot deformation is carried out at 1130-950°C, followed by an exposure at 750°C and cooling. It is used in the manufacture of parts with high hardness: bushings, bearings, knives, etc .

Corrosion resistance

After quenching and low tempering to 400 °C has satisfactory corrosion resistance in 3% sodium chloride solution and water. At tempering 480-500 ° C corrosion resistance is lost due to the release of carbides.

Structure of the alloy

The steel belongs to the martensitic class. After a complete annealing the structure of steel is ledeburite with excess carbides. The microstructure of steel quenched from 900-1250°C includes martensite, austenite and carbides.

For 90Cr18MF, after an oil quenching process at 1040 °C (30 min), the critical points are as follows: Ac1 = 840 °C, Ac3 = 925 °C; Mn = 260 °C; MK = 135 °C. Due to the stability of the austenite, no phase transformation occurs after quenching from 1250 °C. Quenching temperature of 1050 °C and tempering temperature of 150-200 °C are recommended. For full softening (~ 220 NV) annealing at 880-920°C with minimum cooling rate (25°C/h) is carried out. To improve machinability during turning, annealing at 730-760°C is used. Tempering at 450- 600 °C and hardening above t° 1065 °C are not recommended, which causes grain growth and reduction of impact toughness.
