Production

GOST 14 838-78 regulates the production of duralumin wire of alloy grade B65 (chemical composition according to GOST 4784-97). Control of chemical composition is normalized by GOST 24 231-80. Such wire, due to its high content of copper and silicon, has a high hardness. It can be machined and welded. Alloy B65 has increased strength among other duralumin grades. Corrosion resistance is achieved by cladding or anodic oxidation. The wire is produced: 1) naturally aged and hardened uncladded, 2) without heat treatment and cladding, 3) naturally aged and hardened with technological and normal cladding, as well as 4) with technological cladding without heat treatment. Fabrication accuracy and strength is normal, the quality of surface finish is standard. Microstructure of the wire after heat treatment should not have traces of overburning. The wire is tested after heat treatment.

Advantages

Dural is an alloy of aluminum, copper and magnesium. Dural wire grade B65 is well processed, spot-welded and has high ductility. Low corrosion resistance is improved after cladding with aluminum. Heat treatment is used to harden the wire. Annealing increases ductility and cold forming provides good hardness. Compared with steel, these wires are much lighter, less expensive and last longer.

Applications

Dural wire is used in the manufacture of prefabricated structures and small parts. It is relevant in transport engineering, food industry, construction and can withstand considerable load. The wire is supplied in coils or coils.
