Characteristics

Grade 03X22H6M2 refers to chromium-nickelmolybdenum steel of austenitic-ferritic class. Production is regulated by the following GOST: 5632-72, 7350-77 and TU 14-1-1905-76. Steel is used for welded tanks in the production of mineral fertilizers, sulfuric and acetic acids, urea and caprolactam. Permissible operating temperature of such tanks is from -70 to +300°С. This steel, as well as steel 08X21H6M2T (EP54), is recommended instead of 10X17H13M2T grade, since titanium-alloyed grades are much less resistant against shear corrosion of welded joints.

Physical properties at 20°C

Density 7.7 g/cm3; specific electrical resistance = 0.7 Ohm - mm2/m; magnetic saturation in the field of 500 E reaches 0.6 (Tl - m)/A; modulus of elasticity = 20-x10-4 ^N/mm2; andthe temperature coefficient of linear expansion α as the temperature rises from 20 °C to 100 °C, 200 °C, and 300 °C is 9.5; 13.8, and 16.6x10-6/°C, respectively.

Corrosion resistance

According to GOST 7350-77, TU 14-1-1905-76 steel 03Х22Н6М2 resistant to intergranular corrosion during the test by the method of AM GOST 6032-89 (24 hours). The test is performed on quenched specimens with additional provoking heating to 550 °C (within one hour). During the test in boiling 65% HNO3 with a density of 1.41 (3 cycles of 48 hours) corrosion rate in the quenched state shall not exceed 0.5 mm/year. The resistance to general corrosion is close to that of 08X21H6M2T (EP54) steel.

Technological parameters

This mild steel is heat deformed at elevated temperatures compared to other corrosion-resistant steels, namely at 1280-1100°C. This steel can be well stamped, bent in cold and hot condition and cut well. It is water hardened at 1000-1050°C, and the same heat treatment is used for cold and hot work hardening.

Welding

Good for all kinds of manual welding. For manual arc welding - best electrodes OZL-20. When argon arc welding wire 03X17H14M2 (EP551) is used. The strength of welds is not less than 90% of the base material with equal corrosion resistance. Welded joints do not require additional heat treatment.
