Copper pipe

Relevance

Copper was one of the first metals mastered by humans along with tin, iron, silver and gold. It has no alternative in a number of manufacturing fields, such as electrical engineering. Although it is inferior to steel alloys in strength, it surpasses them in manufacturability and corrosion resistance. Copper pipe not only exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, but is also remarkable for its high ductility and thermal conductivity. Seamless round copper pipe is widely used in heating systems in several European countries, water and gas supply. It is difficult to replace it in air conditioning and refrigeration circuits. It is easy to assemble, available with all types of processing. It can be easily cut, drilled, soldered by soft and hard solders, remarkably resistant to aggressive reagents and durable.

Advantages

Copper pipes and fittings — lighter than steel, easier to install, more resistant to all types of corrosion, including atmospheric and soil. They are plastic, durable, easy to weld and solder, can withstand significant variations in pressure and temperature, while meeting the most stringent sanitary standards. Their inner surface does not grow bacteria or fungi, copper does not react with chlorinated or seawater. Copper pipe is relatively cheap Ease of installation, aesthetic appearance, long service life — make such a pipe exceptionally profitable for use in a variety of industries. It works in the temperature range from +250°C to cryogenic temperatures, in addition, copper is harmless to humans and durable.

Disadvantages

Copper is ductile but soft, the strength of copper pipes is relatively low if compared to steel alloys.

Manufacturing

For copper tubes uses technically pure copper grades M1, M2, M3. Chemical composition is normalized by GOST 859−2001. Surface should be clean, matte without defects, traces of dirt, traces of broaching are possible. The accuracy of manufacturing can be increased or normal for diameter and wall thickness. The control of chemical composition is regulated by GOST 24 231−80. Thick-walled copper water pipes are produced in accordance with GOST: 617−90, rectangular and square pipes — GOST 16 774−78, capillary tubes — GOST 2624−77, tubes of waveguide — GOST 20 900−75, thin-walled tubes — GOST 11 383−75, tubes ofCopper-nickel alloy tubes МНЖ5−1 — GOST 17 217−79; tubes for heating and heat-exchange apparatus — GOST 21 646−2003 Copper tubes for air conditioning circuits are produced in accordance with TU 184 450−106−181−2006.

Fittings

Connecting fittings are made of copper of the same grade. Installation is carried out either by high-temperature capillary soldering (the strength of such connections exceeds the strength of the pipe itself) or use press fittings, which are crimped with a press tool. The latter fittings are faster to assemble but are less durable.

Application

Copper pipe fittings significantly reduce the cost of installation. Copper meets the most stringent sanitary standards, does not cause allergies, prevents the growth of bacteria or mold. Service life of such pipes is up to 100 years. They are relevant for climate control systems, refrigerators, creation, brass instruments, decorative elements. Such pipes are in demand in mechanical engineering, construction, electric power industry. Due to chemical inertness and harmlessness to health — copper pipe occupies a special place in the drinking water supply system. Preference in the construction of communication technical and sanitary systems pipes made of one material — significantly reduces costs. Copper pipe is often used as a raw material for cutting, stamping, in the manufacture of rolling parts in mechanical engineering.
