Composition and properties
AISI 405 stainless steel is a low carbon ferritic steel, usually supplied in an annealed condition. According to European standard EN this steel is designated as 1.4002, and according to UNS S40500 classification the material has European designation X6CrAl13. The chemical composition of the steel is shown in the table:
Component | Carbon | Kreminium | Manganese | Aluminum | Nickel | Chrome | Iron |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Percentage content in the material | Not more than 0.08 | Not more than 1.0 | Not more than 1.0 | 0,1...0,3 | 0,3 0,3 Not more than 0,6 | 11,5...14,5 | The rest |
The nearest domestic analogue of AISI 405 (1.4002) steel is stainless steel grade 10X13SU. It is supplied under company specifications and differs from this material by a wider tolerance on aluminum content (up to 0.8...1.0%), carbon (up to 1.0%) and reduced nickel content (not more than 0.3%).
The presence of nickel and aluminum promotes better purification of steel from oxygen-containing compounds and determines higher plastic properties of rolled products. Obligatory metallurgical impurities in steel are sulfur (not more than 0.035%) and phosphorus (not more than 0.04%).
Among other consumer characteristics of steel are:
- The ductility modulus is 210 GPa;
- Relative elongation at tension - 21%;
- Impact toughness - 120 kJ/m3;
- Tensile strength - 460 MPa;
- Plasticity limit - 220 MPa;
After annealing, steel AISI 405 (1.4002) has a hardness of 180
Application of
Ferritic iron, which forms in the microstructure of this steel, gives it high plastic properties. Rolled sheets are well amenable to plastic processing, which allows us to manufacture from steel AISI 405 (1.4002) complex body parts, which exploitation is supposed in corrosive environments. According to the international classification PREN the pitting resistance index is 13, and this corresponds to the successful resistance of steel to corrosion-mechanical wear up to temperatures of 550 ...6000 C.
Wires made of this steel can be drawn once and then successfully machined using cold roll forming technology, including without the need for intermediate annealing. Machining by cutting is usually performed at reduced speeds and feeds, which is associated with the possible adhesion of chips to the workpiece.
To buy AISI 405 (1.4002) stainless steel in rounds, sheets or wires, Evek GmbH offers a cost-effective and practical solution. The products supplied are of high quality and are delivered promptly and in a wide range of assortments.
