Ferritic stainless steel
Ferritic grades.
Contains up to 20.5% chromium, in addition — aluminum, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, yttrium, iron, additionally contains zirconium carbonitrides and titanium at the following percentage ratio of components: Chromium — 18.5−20.5; Al — 4.5−5.5; Mn — 0.01−0.5; S — 0.001−0.005; P — 0.001−0.025; Y — 0,004−0,08; titanium and zirconium carbonitrides — 0,002−0,015; iron — the rest.
Corrosion resistance
Chromium ferritic steels are not prone to stress corrosion cracking. They outperform chromium-nickel austenitic grades in most corrosive environments.
Biphasic grades.
They contain not only ferrite but also martensite from 5 to 20% and have a high tensile strength due to the relatively hard martensite phase and a low yield strength due to the relatively soft ferrite phase. Compared to the others, the two-phase steels show relatively equal yield strength, higher hardening coefficient and high relative elongation at break.
