Production and application
08Cr18T1 steel is a chromium alloy of the ferrite class. This steel is melted in open arc electric furnaces. Production is regulated by the following GOSTs: 5632-72 and 5582-75, as well as TU: 14-1-1081-74; 14-1-2421-78; 14-1-4035-85. It is used for electric-welded pipes, in gas exhaust systems in automobiles, as well as for commercial equipment. The Ministry of Health permits the use of such steel for the manufacture of machine parts that are in contact with must and wine (up to 24 hours), in the dairy industry as equipment and containers, as well as for the manufacture of diffusion installations sugar beet industry.

Density 7.7 g/cm3; modulus of elasticity E 21.0 - 10-4 N/mm2; thermal conductivity 26.4 W/(m - K).
Corrosion resistance
GOST 5582-75 does not provide for control of intergranular corrosion. This steel has 1-3 points of corrosion resistance: in boiling 50-80% ammonium nitrate solution, in HNO3 solution up to 60% concentration, in hydrofluoric and phosphoric acid solutions up to 60 °C, in salt fog, in exhaust gas condensate. Heat resistance of steel at 700 °C for 500 h = 0.004 g/(m² - h).
Welding
This steel is welded by argon arc welding, both without an additive and with an additive wire 10X18N10T; by automatic submerged-arc welding, and for thin sheets - by resistance welding.
