Tantalum powder is a finely divided mass, which is obtained by mechanical or chemical means. This powder is relevant in jewelry, electrical engineering (with the establishment of energy-intensive capacitors), nuclear energy — for fuel element cladding. In metallurgy tantalum powder is in demand as an alloying additive heat-resistant alloys.
Manufacturer
The basis for the production of tantalum powder are waste production of tantalum — tin TN-3, which is processed with pure hydrogen in a pressurized furnace. Compact tantalum loosened, the surface oxides are removed. Next, the powder is subjected to blasting at a special table, where separated remnants of the electrolyte and washed solids. Then the powder mass was washed with water and dried. Another way tantalum powder can be obtained by electrolysis of salt melt, consisting of pentoxide TA2 O5 and K2 TaF7 (fortuntate potassium), fluoride and potassium chloride.
Properties
Depending on the dispersion of tantalum powder is different in color. The dark black, but most of the factions — the bright and even bluish-steel color. Pure tantalum powder is very plastic. It is resistant to moisture, industrial condensate, concentrated acids. When heated in a current of hydrogen it is converted into hydride of black color. Before pressing tantalum powder is moistened with a solution of glycerin or alcohol. When sintering these solutions evaporate without a trace.
