Soft magnetic alloy selection
Soft magnetic materials are selected for properties such as permeability, coercive force, saturation induction, core loss and response at the operating frequency. These values depend on the exact alloy, chemistry, product thickness, cold work, annealing cycle, test direction and measurement method. A general request for “soft magnetic alloy” is therefore not enough to identify a suitable material or delivery condition.
Product form, condition and magnetic requirements
State the accepted grade and standard, required product form, thickness or diameter, width, length, tolerance, surface and quantity. Include the required magnetic property values, test field or frequency, specimen orientation, heat-treatment condition and whether final annealing will be performed by the buyer. Add mechanical-property limits, dimensional inspection, marking and certificate requirements. If the material is intended for a transformer core, shield, relay, sensor or marine component, provide the component specification and operating conditions for supplier review.
