Technical Characteristics

Grade: Wrought Aluminum Alloy, Aluminum Content 90.9 — 94.7%. The addition T to the marking means naturally hardened and aged, T1 means naturally hardened and artificially aged. The hardness after quenching and aging is HB 10 -1 = 105 MPa. Alloy annealed HB 10 -1 = 42 MPa. Alloy is available in the form of bars and sheets, forging material, tubes.

Application

Rolled steel is used under moderate load for the load-bearing elements of aircraft structures, car bodies, for parts operating at temperatures up to -230°C.

U.S. sourcing overview

D16T is an aluminum-copper-magnesium alloy designation used in regional specifications for heat-treated wrought products. It is often discussed alongside 2024-type alloys, but procurement must be based on the exact governing standard, temper and product-form requirements rather than a general cross-reference.

Product forms and sourcing

Sourcing can be reviewed for sheet, plate, strip, tube, profiles and cut blanks, subject to dimensions, temper and quantity. Include thickness, width and length for flat products, or outside diameter and wall for tube, plus surface, flatness, straightness and cutting requirements.

Evek LLC reviews each requirement against the requested grade, specification, form, dimensions and quantity. Availability, origin, production route, minimum quantity and certification are confirmed during quotation; website text is not a stock or compliance guarantee.

Specification and substitution

Do not assume D16T and a 2024 temper are automatically interchangeable. Composition limits, temper definitions, mechanical-property requirements, dimensional tolerances and inspection provisions can vary by standard. Engineering approval is required for substitutions.

The purchaser remains responsible for material selection, design approval and confirmation that the specified material is suitable for the finished component, manufacturing process and service environment.
