Composition and properties
The composition of heat-resistant stainless steel grade 20X13 according to GOST 5632 — — — — — — — 72 includes 12−14% chromium, 0.6% of nickel, manganese and silicon, 0.16 — 0.25% of carbon, thousands of percent of phosphorus and sulfur. The rest is iron. Pipes made of such martensitic steel have high corrosion resistance, are heat-resistant, strong and ductile. Heat resistance and ductility allow these pipes to be used in applications exposed to vibration and impact loads at about 550 °C, they can also withstand short-term heating up to 700 °C. Such pipes resist the action of atmospheric and soil moisture, are stable in solutions of organic acids, in weak solutions of nitric acid.

Hot deformation is carried out at 1100 to 900 °C with cooling in air. Rolling and forging at 780 °C. Softening annealing and annealing at 500 °C are carried out at 750−800 °C. Quenching requires heating to 950−1000 °C and cooling in oil. Pipes are welded by electric arc, argon arc manual or automatic welding. If pipe wall thickness is more than 10 mm preliminary heating to 250−400 °C and final heat treatment to remove residual stresses is desirable.
