Characteristics
Steel grade 02X18H11 refers to the chromium-nickel austenitic class steels. It is melted in open electric arc furnaces, vacuum induction furnaces with the use of low-carbon ferroalloys. Gas-oxygen refining of liquid metal and vacuum decarburization of melt in the ladle are also possible. Steel must meet the requirements of GOST: 1133−71, 5632−72, 5582−76; TU: 14−1-1160−74, 14−1-2144−77, 14−1-1180−74, 14−1-2450−78, 14−1-3652−83, 14−1-490−72, 14−4-3071−80, 14−1-3071−80. This steel is used in aggressive oxidizing environments in the production of 65% nitric acid under the harshest temperature conditions (in tail gas heaters, in oxidizer condensers).

Physical properties
Steel 02Х18Н11 after tempering (1 hour at t ° 650 ° C) must be resistant to intergranular corrosion. The tests shall be carried out by the DU method of GOST 6032−89. The rate of corrosion should not exceed 0.4 mm / year, steel 02X18H11 suitable for the manufacture of heat exchangers, and steel 03X18H11 — for work in contact with HNO3 (concentration up to 70%) at t ° boiling, and in HNO3 (concentration 45−80%) at tº 80−140 °C, as well as in ammonium nitrate, adipic acid and in environments containing nitrous gases, at tº 80 °C and above.

*1 Welded specimens were tested under blowdown column operating conditions in the production of weak nitric acid (56−60% HNO3, at t=130 °C, 10,390 hours).
Processing
The alloy has good processability for cold and hot plastic deformation. The ingots for rolling are heated to 1240 — 1260 ° C Hot deformation usually occurs at t ° 1100−900 ° C. To remove the build-up after hot or cold deformation, softening heat treatment is used. Hardening is carried out in water at 1040−1100ºC. This steel is cut in the same way as alloy X18H10T.
Welding
This steel is characterized by its good weldability. When using RTA, OZL-22 electrodes with Sv-01Cr18Ni10 wire are used. When an automatic welding in shielding gas (submerged arc) wire Sv-01X19N9 and Sv-01X18N10 is used. Welded joints are resistant to knife corrosion in oxidizing environments. They can be annealed to remove stresses without fear of intergranular corrosion. According to the conclusion of NIICHIMMASH the welded joints of 02X18H11 steel have a range of mechanical, corrosion and technological properties similar to those of OZH18H11 steel.
