Tool steel forms for U.S. enquiries
X6VF and X100CrMoV5-1 (1.2363) tool steels are requested for round stock, bars and forgings used in cold-work tooling. Grade equivalence depends on the governing standard and required condition, so the specification should be confirmed for each order.
Chemical composition
X6VF steel refers to stamping steels designed for plastic deformation of metals and alloys in cold state. In the CIS, this steel is produced according to GOST 5950 standards and has the following chemical composition:
| Element | Carbon | Silicon | Manganese | Chrome | Tungsten | Vanadium |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Content in steel, % | 1,05…1,15 | 0,15…0,35 | 0,15…0,40 | 5,50…6,50 | 1,10…1,50 | 0,50…0,80 |
In the composition of steel is permitted up to 0,03% of metallurgical impurities — sulfur and phosphorus.
The steel X100CrMoV5−1 (1.2363) is considered to be the closest foreign analogue of the steel. It is produced in Europe according to DIN 17350, and in North America it is known as AISI A2. The composition of X100CrMoV5−1 (1.2363) is shown in the table below:
| Element | Carbon | Silicon | Manganese | Chrome | Tungsten | Vanadium |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steel content, % | Up to 1.0 | Up to 0.25 | Up to 0.60 | Up to 5.15 | Trace | Up to 0.20 |
Sulfur and phosphorus limitations are the same as in GOST 5950.
Properties and application
Steels of this group have operational strength, wear resistance and toughness qualities that allow them to be successfully used for the production of punch/punch punches and dies for cold sheet die forging. They can also be used for production of thread rolling tools (in particular, dies), and also for working parts of drawing and forming dies, shells of bandage tools, working at specific loads up to 1600…1700 MPa.
Basic physical and mechanical properties of steels X6VF, X100CrMoV5−1 (1.2363) after hardening and tempering:
- Ultimate strength, MPa — 2000;
- Tensile strength, kJ/m2 — 40;
- Hardness, HRC — 58… 60;
