The content of non-metallic impurities — sulfur and phosphorus — should not exceed 0,035%.
From the nearest foreign analogues of steel 18 KHL it is necessary to mention steel 18hgt smelted in Poland, the composition of which according to the national standard PNH 84030 does not differ from the above, as well as steel 20MnCr5 (different designation — 1.7147) produced according to European standards EN 10843 with the following chemical composition:

Properties and applications
After rolling and heat treatment, the steels in question have the following mechanical properties:
- Ultimate tensile strength, MPa — 1000;
- Ultimate ductility, MPa — 850;
- Relative elongation, % — 9;
- Tensile strength, kJ/m2 — 80;
- Brinell hardness — not above 255.
Rolled sheets of these steels and forgings are used as blanks for the subsequent manufacture of gears, complex shafts, clutches, pins and similar items that require high fatigue strength and wear resistance with a ductile core. The steels are satisfactorily machined on metal-cutting machines and are also machined by hot-forming methods. The weldability of the steels is moderate.
