Grade 12Х17 (or EZh 17).
Refers to the type of stainless steel for the production of kitchen utensils, household items, equipment of light and food industries. It is used for the production of fasteners, bushings, rollers, vessels operated in dilute solutions of acetic, nitric and citric acids, in solutions of salts with oxidizing characteristics, in the production of pipes and heat exchangers.

- in a gas environment up to t° +850 ° C
- in air, the temperature of intensive scale formation rises above +900°C
- Generally used in annealed condition
- this alloy is not recommended for welded constructions.

Technological parameters of 12Х17 alloy
Processing features - To improve the hardness and mechanical characteristics set by ST CKBA 010, to achieve maximum corrosion resistance, the billets are annealed. In order to reduce the residual magnetic induction in the magnetic coil of electromagnets blanks are subjected to long-term annealing. Long-term annealing of billets gives the necessary magnetic properties of steel 12X17. At a magnetic residual induction BCh 0.3 Tl coercive force Hs is 0.23 ka/m; at Hm 20 ka/and the maximum saturation induction Bs is equal to 1.6 Tl. Welded units of 12X17 grade are annealed according to the following regime for the corrosion resistance improvement: heating to 780-800°С, 2-3 h, air cooling. If there are no requirements for resistance to intergranular corrosion; heating to 775-820°С, air cooling, if resistance to intergranular corrosion is necessary, holding for 8 hours.
Tendency to temper embrittlement - Steel has a tendency to temper embrittlement at +475 °C and long dwell times.
Weldability - Difficult to weld. Types of welding: ArDS, RDS. Recommended subsequent heat treatment.
Forging temperature - 1250 °C at the beginning, 900 °C at the end. For cross-sections up to 350 mm - cooling in air.
