Chemical composition

Tool alloyed steel of 6HS grade in CIS countries is produced according to the technical requirements of GOST 5950. The composition of steel consists of:

  • Carbon - 0.60...0.70%;

  • Manganese - 0.15 ... 0.40%;
  • Chrome - 1.30...1.60%.

Small amounts of copper, tungsten and vanadium (up to 0,15...0,3%), as well as nonmetallic impurities: sulfur - up to 0,025%, phosphorus - up to 0,030% are also allowed.

The foreign analogues of this steel are 60MnSi4 and 6hs. 6hs steel is melted by Polish metallurgical companies and has the same composition as 6HS steel. Steel 60MnSi4 (1.2826), produced according to DIN specifications, includes:

  • Carbon - up to 0.60%;
  • Silicon - up to 1.0%;
  • Manganese up to 1.1%;
  • Chromium - up to 0.3%.

Properties and application

Steels are characterized by satisfactory machinability at cutting, milling and grinding with the use of carbide cutting tools.
