Characteristics
AISI 316Ti stainless steel with titanium, molybdenum and higher nickel content is an improved version of AISI 304. Titanium strengthens its resistance to aggressive environments, so the main use of this steel is in the manufacture of industrial equipment, which has to work in harsh environments. The presence of titanium in the steel, five times the percentage of carbon, stabilizes the deposition of chromium carbides on the surface of the crystals. AISI 316Ti steel is ductile and well welded. Balanced composition provides considerable corrosion resistance in a wide range of aggressive media. Molybdenum protects against crevice and pitting corrosion in sea water, chlorinated water and acetic acid vapors. Minimal gas corrosion rate provides excellent corrosion resistance in polluted industrial atmospheres. Domestic analogues of this grade are 10Х17Н13М2Т and 03Х17Н14М3.
AISI 316Ti has higher strength and creep resistance at high temperatures than AISI 304, and excellent mechanical and corrosion properties at minus temperatures. AISI 316Ti is used when it is necessary to avoid corrosion in the welded peri-seam areas. AISI 316Ti - titanium stabilized steel is used for a long time in the temperature range 550 °C - 800 °C.
Application
High workability, oxidation resistance and excellent mechanical properties allow AISI 316Ti to be used in many industries. These are chemical and pharmaceutical industry, food industry, machine building, production of heat exchangers, petrochemistry, processing industry.

Heat treatment of AISI 316Ti steel.
Annealing: Temperatures of 1010 to 1120°C and rapid cooling with water or cold air provide optimum ductility. Better corrosion resistance is obtained by annealing at 1070°C and rapid cooling.
2. Stress relieving (tempering) at 450-600°C for one hour with little risk of sensitization. The lowest stress relief temperature not exceeding 400°C should be used.
3. Forging range. Temperature at the beginning of the process is 1150 - 1260°C, at the end of the process is 900-925°C. For all hot workmanship - accompanied by annealing. The time required to achieve homogeneous heating of stainless steels is longer than that of carbon steels - about 12 times longer.
