AL7 aluminum-copper foundry alloy
AL7 is an aluminum-copper casting-alloy designation used for small and medium shaped castings and selected engineering components. The exact chemistry, casting method, heat treatment and acceptance requirements must be checked against the governing standard or customer specification.
Material characteristics
Published data for AL7 describe satisfactory machinability together with relatively high casting shrinkage and a tendency toward hot cracking. These factors can limit the alloy's use for complex or large castings and must be considered when selecting the mold and process.

According to OST 24.916.01-71, the iron content is indicated for sand casting, for melted models, die casting and die casting. The amount of impurities to be accounted for should be for sand casting, for melted models, die casting, die casting ≤ 2.20%.
