Description

A1 / A0 non-alloy rail axle steel

A1 steel is used for rolled or forged round and square billets intended for axles for locomotives, electric and diesel trains, railcars, metro equipment and related rolling stock. Where the governing agreement requires supply without heat treatment in the rolled or forged condition, the A0 designation may be used instead of A1.

Designation must be confirmed

This A1 / A0 rail-axle designation is not the same product as AISI A1 air-hardening tool steel and should not be interpreted as a stainless-steel grade. The governing rail or customer specification controls chemistry, mechanical properties, heat treatment, testing and acceptance.

Ordering details

State the exact standard, product form, cross-section, dimensions, delivery and heat-treatment condition, ultrasonic or other testing, inspection documents and quantity. See related pages for special-purpose steels and special-steel forgings.
