The sizes of drill pipes and the way they are connected.

GOST R 51510-99 describes the requirements to drill pipes manufactured in Russia. The standard is applied to drill pipes designated for all types, methods and conditions of exploration drilling for solid minerals and water, exploration and prospecting, geotechnical survey, seismic survey, construction, etc . with the use of both domestic and foreign drilling equipment and tools.

Types of drill pipes

Area of application Type
Drill pipe name Designation
Traditional core drilling and coreless drilling universal steel TBSU
alloyed TBL
weighted TBU
Drilling with removable core light steel TBSL
heavy series steel TBST
light steel heavy series TBLT
Core drilling with hydraulic and pneumatic conveying double ones with outer steel pipe TBDS
double with external light-alloy pipe TBDL

Locking Connection

The basic tool for uncoupling drill pipe is the locking connection, which includes a nipple and a socket. These fittings are threaded and are used to make the connection. The thread type is conical locking. Supplier Evek GmbH offers to buy in assortment drill pipe of domestic and foreign production at the affordable price in a wide range. Provide product delivery anywhere in the continent. Price is optimal.

Characteristics of the threaded connection, GOST 7918-75

GOST 7918-75 normalizes the production:

  • Configuration of the socket and nipple;
  • Formation of connections, unifying the use of certain locksmith tools (ring grooves or flats "under the key");
  • Right and left-hand versions of locks;
  • Average values of thread diameters in the main plane;
  • Profiles and dimensions of pipe threads;

Parameters of a threaded connection

Thread profile elements Limit deviation at length, mm
25,4 60
Step ±0,05 ±0,10
Taper (outside, middle and inside diameters) ±0,08 ±0,16

Technical requirements for the lock connection include the following items: Locks should be made of steel 40XH according to State Standard 4543, the mechanical properties of which after heat treatment should be at least the following:

ultimate tensile strength, kgf/mm2... 90
ultimate tensile yield strength, kgf/mm2... 70
elongation, % ... 15
reduction ratio, % ... 50
impact toughness at 20°C, kgf/cm2... 12
hardness, HRCe (HB) ... 28 (262)

Heat treatment of sockets and plugs

The outer surface of the sockets and plugs shall be subjected to the induction heat treatment to a depth of 1.5 to 2.5 mm to a hardness of at least 49.5 HRCe. The 50 to 65 mm long sections on the male thread side and the 30 to 35 mm sections on the female thread side of the plug and socket shall not be inductively hardened. It is allowed to harden the outer surface by separate strips, the sizes of which are specified in the working drawings. Note. The outside surface of sockets and nipples of left locks are not subject to induction heat treatment.

Lock Thread

Castle thread H-50 nipple and socket shall be subjected to induction heat treatment to a depth of 3.3 to 5.0 mm from the top of the profile to a hardness of 49 - 57 HRCэ in the area from the second to the tenth turns, counting from the lead coil. After the induction heat treatment, the parts must be subjected to low tempering or an operation replacing it in order to relieve internal stresses. The threads of the nipple locking grooves and hollows (to smooth out undercuts and irregularities) must be run in with rollers prior to the induction heat treatment. The roughness of the surfaces after running-in is Ra1.25 μm. The deviation from the alignment of the threads of each part (plug or socket) must not exceed 0.1 mm per 100 mm of length.

Quality requirements

The distance between the stop end of the socket and the shoulder of the lock nipple, screwed by hand (the tension in the pair), should be no more than 0.5 mm. The surfaces of the lock nipple shoulder and the coupling thrust face should be free of burrs, bumps and other defects affecting the strength and tightness of the connection. Do not apply any marks on these surfaces. The locks must be free of cracks, hairs, films, shells and delaminations. Cutting, welding and caulking of defective places are not allowed. Entry threads of the lock threads must be blunted to a full profile. Blunt thread of the locking thread of the socket in the form of a bevel at an angle of 30° - 35° to the axis of the thread is allowed. Locks shall be galvanized or phosphatized. Zinc phosphate coating - according to GOST 9.306. Thickness of zinc coating - 15-24 microns.

Note

The set of locks must include nipple and socket tightly screwed by hand. Average time between failures of thread locking Tcp - not less than 800 cycles of mechanized make-up and unscrewing. The specified no-failure operating timeTu - not less than 500 cycles of mechanized make-up and unscrewing. As a sign of failure lock thread is its wear, characterized by a decrease in the number of turns of lock parts required for its full make-up to 2.5 turns.
