2014 promises to be for the company RUSAL year of innovation — pilot production was launched in the Urals aluminum production plant, which used red mud (fluxing additives), in the future the company plans to manufacture prototypes scandium primary concentrate, widely used in the production of aluminum-scandium alloy. Pilot Point has made a flux in an amount of 1000 tons, the product has been shipped Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine, «Severstal», «Tulachermet», «Ural Steel». In the future, the company expects to produce new products in industrial volumes. Last year, at the Ural plant was put into operation area for the production of flux, it is sufficient demand in the steel industry.
At the beginning of this year, construction and installation work to ensure the production process to obtain scandium primary concentrate were initiated at the Ural plant. Completion of the installation and start of operation of the installation is scheduled for the summer period, annual throughput capacity of 2 tons of concentrate. The total amount invested in the project investment is 74 million rubles.
Now for this project came quite a difficult period, because laboratory tests are moving to the industrial production stage. However, Victor Mann, who is the technical director of the company, quite optimistic, because the released samples gave excellent performance that allows to enroll in the project quite promising. The project for the production of products using the red mud is the next step in the program, developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. In 2012, 35 million rubles were spent on research and development in the framework of the program. The next stage of the program — construction work on the construction site at the Ural plant for processing sludge. Sam RUSAL since 2011 invested in the program about 190 million rubles.
In addition to these works in the Ural aluminum plant, the company is considering the application of the technologies and equipment for processing waste alumina production to other parts of alumina belonging to Rusal, as well as abroad.
