General requirements
Tool carbon steel is used for the production of cutting, stamping and measuring tools, both manual and machine tools. A common feature of these steels is that they are not hardened to a significant depth during heat treatment.
Alloying
Without any alloying components (with the exception of copper and manganese which are inevitably present in small quantities) these steel alloys have very high critical cooling rates which, during quenching in aqueous media, can be achieved only on the small sections of the tool (or only in its surface layers). Since the hardenability is low, the internal volumes of the tool remain ductile.
Increased toughness
The toughness of carbon tool steels also has a silver lining: Carbon tool steels do not fracture under impact load. The toughness is also related to the percentage of carbon. The most ductile steels are alloy steels with the carbon content in the range 0.7...0.9%, medium ductility steels are those with the carbon content of 0.95...1.05%, and low ductility steels are those with the carbon content higher than 1.05%. Evek GmbH offers to buy carbon tool steel at an affordable price in a wide range. We provide delivery of products to any point of the continent. The price is optimal.
