Relevance of boiler steel heat treatment
The initial level of mechanical properties of all boiler steel grades does not satisfy production, as they all belong to the group of low-carbon alloy steels, which have good plasticity and low hardness. Therefore, after rolling, such steel is subjected to heat treatment. The need for heat treatment is also caused by undesirable transformations in the microstructure of steels. In particular, unalloyed steel when heated to 350...450 ° C is prone to spontaneous spheroidization - the destruction of strong plates of iron carbide, and their subsequent disintegration into separate sites of spherical shape.
Types of heat treatment, GOST 5220-79
For sheets of hot-rolled steel grades 16K and 18K - normalization. At the request of the consumer steel sheets of these grades can be produced without normalization;
15K and 20K steel sheets are usually produced without normalization, but normalization may be provided at the customer's request;
Sheets of 22K steel grades up to and including 35 mm thick are manufactured without heat treatment or heat treated (HT), and over 25 mm thick - without heat treatment;
Sheets of low-alloy boiler steel are made without heat treatment or heat-treated, including those with rolling heating (TO); on customer's request normalization or hardening with TO tempering can be made;
Sheets of steel grades 17GS, 17GS1S all thickness, 10G2S1 grade plates more than 20 mm thick made only heat-treated (after normalization or quenching with tempering).
