Relevance
AISI 321 grade refers to corrosion-resistant heat-resistant high-temperature steels. It is not resistant in sulfur-containing media. Recommended temperature of use is 600-800 ° C, with a very long service life. Steel AISI 321 and welded seams are not susceptible to intergranular corrosion, due to the addition of titanium. Despite this, welded pieces of AISI 321 should never be used in highly oxidizing environments. It is used in the production of welded equipment: parts of furnace fittings, heat exchangers, retorts, muffles, headers and nozzles of exhaust systems, pipes, electrodes of spark plugs.

Heat treatment
1. annealing temperature of 1050 to 1150°C with rapid cooling with cold air for maximum strength.
2. Stress relieving (tempering) is carried out by annealing between 450 and 800°C in order to avoid the formation of carbide grains, which provoke corrosion on the grain boundaries.
3. Forging range. The temperature at the beginning of the process is 1150 - 1250 °C, at the end it is about 950 °C.
The time to reach homogeneous heating of stainless steels is longer than that of carbon steels, about 12 times longer. A gradual decrease in temperature is necessary to guarantee the distribution of carbon.
Welding
Good, but because of the inclusion of titanium - more difficult than 304/304L. For welding, use series 347 electrodes (stabilized with niobium), which has improved creep resistance compared to 308L steel in environments where the operating temperature is above 400 °C.
