Chemical composition and properties
According to Jae0.021.142 TU, the alloy in question contains 79.15% of tungsten and 19.25% to 20.75% of rhenium. In small amounts (not more than 0.5%) high-temperature oxides of potassium, sodium, silicon and aluminum are also added to the alloy in order to improve the thermal resistance of the finished wire. In this case the consumer can choose from the following range, mm: 0.10; 0.15; 0.20; 0.35 and 0.5 mm.
The combined effect of rhenium and tungsten provides the following consumer benefits to the alloy BP20:
High heat resistance and refractoriness.
Resistance to corrosion (especially high-temperature corrosion).
Resistance to the effects of aggressive gaseous media and carbides.
Stability of thermoelectric characteristics in the temperature range of 0...25000С.
Of particular importance for practical application of alloy ВР20 is its extremely high elasticity which amounts to 36000-388000 kg/mm2 depending on the temperature. Thus, the springiness of the drawn wire determines its durability under external mechanical influences. After removal of load the initial configuration and positioning are quickly restored.
Application
Spring tungsten-rubber wire of ВР20 grade is an indispensable material for thermocouples of thermoelectric sensors, which work under unfavorable temperature conditions. Deviation of measured thermoelectric emf from nominal values does not exceed 3...5% when external temperature changes within the range from 1400 to 25000С. For graduated thermocouples the wire can also be supplied in an annealed state.
