Determination of working pressure

In order to ensure proper operation, all oil pipes are tested and calculated on certain pressures, which are created by the working environment pumped into the pipe. GOST 632-80 establishes the procedure for pipe wall pressure testing. To determine the value of hydraulic pressure(p) in kgf/cm2 or in MPa, the following values must be taken into account.

  1. s - nominal wall thickness, mm;
  2. D - nominal outer diameter of pipe, mm;
  3. R- allowable stress, kgf/mm2 (MPa).

A - strength group

D allowable stress R is accepted for tubing with nominal diameter 273 mm and more equal to 0.6 sTmin and for the rest - equal to 0.8sTmin. By consumer's request the value of allowable stress R for pipes of strength group D with nominal diameter 273 mm and more is taken equal to 0.8sTmin.

B-strength group

Allowable tension(R) is accepted for tubing with nominal diameter up to 219 mm inclusive equal to 0,8sTmin, and for tubing with nominal diameter more than 219 mm - 0,6sTmin.

Triangular threads and OTTM pipes

For pipes with short triangular threads with nominal diameter greater than 245 mm, for all diameters of pipes with elongated triangular threads and OTTM pipes, for which the pressure is limited by the strength of couplings, the smaller value shall be taken as the pressure value. To determine the value of hydraulic pressure (p) in kgf/cm2 or in MPa for pipelines limited by coupling strength, the following values must be taken into account.

  1. Dm - nominal outer diameter of normal and special coupling, mm;
  2. sTmin - minimum yield strength, kgf/mm2 (MPa);
  3. dp- external diameter of coupling thread in the plane of pipe end after make-up on machine, mm, defined according to the formula
  4. dp = d3 + 2h1 - LK,
  5. Where d3 is the inside diameter of the thread in the plane of the face of the coupling, mm;
  6. h1 - height of the profile, mm;
  7. L - total length of pipe thread (to the end of run-off), mm;
  8. K - taper of the thread.
