Production of tungsten wire

Manufacturing

Tungsten wire is made from powder rods that are rolled out on a rotary forging machine. A rod is obtained which is drawn into a tungsten wire, 1 to 3 mm in diameter, by drawing. Smaller diameter wire is called strand. It can also be made with the addition of chromium, cobalt, carbon. At the same time, its strength increases. Tungsten drawn wire of groups A, B, C (black) of VA, BCh, BPH grades is also made by powder metallurgy.

Usage

This grade is used in x-ray engineering and radioelectronics for manufacturing of heaters and cathodes for electronic devices which are intended to operate under conditions of vibration, shock, t° 2100 °C. Tungsten wires are used to manufacture cathodes for gas-discharge and electronic devices, bushings and other parts that do not require tungsten with special additives. Tungsten wire for lighting devices is produced in accordance with GOST 19 671-91 with diameter of 19.5 μm - 1.5 mm. Such wire is used for production of surgical instruments, parts of rockets, airplanes and textile equipment.
