Production of molybdenum wire
Molybdenum wire production
MOLYBDENUM WIRE FOR INCANDESCENT LAMPS
Quality requirements
Molybdenum wire, ∅ up to 0.4 mm, is produced in black or dark gray color, while wire of larger diameter is usually light gray. According to the specifications, its surface may not show traces of oxidation, grease or other types of contamination. The surface must be crack-free, smooth and burr-free. Requirements for molybdenum wire ∅ more than 0.5 mm are not so strict, burrs not exceeding the minimum permissible limits are allowed. Special tables stipulate tensile and breaking strengths. Quality wire from is able to withstand spiralization.
Applications
Molybdenum wire is resistant in the most aggressive environments, solutions of concentrated alkalis and acids - sulfuric, hydrofluoric and hydrochloric. Molybdenum wire is characterized by exceptional mechanical strength, refractoriness and corrosion resistance. Lifetime molybdenum wire is much higher than similar products of other metals. It is very reliable, durable, in demand in the most demanding conditions of modern production, is widely used in nuclear power, mechanical engineering, industrial chemistry. It is difficult to replace for the manufacture of resistance elements of heating furnaces, lighting fixtures, where high heat resistance is required. Piercing molybdenum mandrels are used for piercing steel stainless seamless pipes, as well as for drilling steel. The most in-demand wire grade is the MH grade.
