For example, to obtain higher elasticity, strength and hardenability properties, 55C2 and 60C2 spring-alloy steels have a high percentage of silicon, which, as a result of quenching and subsequent tempering is completely dissolved in iron without forming any compounds with it. The initial state of these steels is ferrite mixed with carbides. The first constituent causes ductility of spring steels, and the second constituent causes brittleness. To give the coil structure an equilibrium, it is quickly heated to temperatures above the formation of a solid solution of carbon in α-iron (700...720°С) and then moderately rapidly cooled in oil, so as not to create internal structural stresses. It is under these conditions of heat treatment that the steel obtains an equilibrium crystalline structure. Additionally, it can be improved by annealing, but the initial hardness will fall, which, in turn, will reduce the durability of the part.
