Difficulties in welding
Welding hastelloy involves a number of difficulties due to the fact that during the transition of metal from solid to liquid state there is a tendency for the formation of pores. During argon arc welding, the main source of pores is nitrogen. After the weld cools, nitrogen gas forms pores inside the metal.
Crystallization cracks
Hastelloy welding is associated with a high propensity for the weld to develop crystallization cracks at the boundaries of large grains, which have a transcrystalline structure.
