Scope of ASTM B515

This specification specifies general requirements for welded corrosion-resistant boiler tubes, heat exchanger tubes, condenser tubes of UNS alloys N08120, N08800, N08810, and boiler tubes only of UNS alloy N08811a, which are operated at low or high temperatures.

Specification

This specification specifies tubes with parameters:

  • 1/8 to 5 inches (3.18 to 127 mm) outside diameter;
  • wall thickness 0.015 to 0.500 in (0.38 to 12.70 mm).

Pipes having other dimensions may be manufactured and supplied provided such pipes meet all other requirements of this specification.

Application

Production of tubing operated at operating temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C). N08120 and UNS N08810 alloys serve as raw materials for pipe normally used at temperatures above 1100°F, where high resistance to creep and fracture are required. Pipes are tungsten carbide-tipped to enhance these qualities.

Standardization

The values specified by ASTM B515 in units of inch-pound are to be considered the standard. Metric values, are mathematical conversions to SI units, which are not considered standard.
