Advantages
Molybdenum wire has a minimum coefficient of thermal expansion, a significant modulus of elasticity, hardness, toughness and resistance to aggressive environments, which allows it to be used in all industries. This wire has exceptional mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. Molybdenum wires are up to half the weight of tungsten, so they offer a higher specific strength at temperatures up to 1370°C.
Disadvantages
Almost the only drawback is the high production cost: Molybdenum ores are considered to be rare minerals. Molybdenum is difficult to isolate in its pure form, it is refractory and difficult to process. However, its reliability and durability, which molybdenum rolls demonstrate, fully recoup all costs.

Use
Due to such structural qualities as heat resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance molybdenum wire is widely used in industrial chemistry, nuclear energy, mechanical engineering. This wire competes with tungsten wire in lighting fixtures, parts of thermal furnaces and tool steel production. Molybdenum piercing mandrels for piercing seamless steel pipes are used in metal processing. The most popular wire grade is MoF, but other wire grades are also used, different in their content of impurities and manufacturing method.
