Description

Typical applications: S255 is used for sheet, wide flat products, hot-rolled angles, channels, beams and roll-formed profiles in welded or mechanically connected steel structures.

S255 and S375 are separate strength grades; purchase documents must identify S255 explicitly. The purchase order should also identify GOST 27772-88 or another governing specification, thickness, delivery condition, toughness requirement and inspection documentation.

U.S. sourcing overview

S255 is a structural-steel designation found in regional construction and fabrication documents. The name alone does not define all procurement requirements. State the governing standard, product form, delivery condition, thickness range and required mechanical properties.

Product forms and sourcing

Supply can be reviewed for sheet, plate, angle, channel, beam, flat and roll-formed profiles, depending on specification, dimensions and quantity. Include thickness, width, length, section size, tolerances, surface condition and any cutting, drilling, priming or fabrication allowance.

Evek LLC reviews each requirement against the requested grade, specification, form, dimensions and quantity. Availability, origin, production route, minimum quantity and certification are confirmed during quotation; website text is not a stock or compliance guarantee.

Specification and substitution

A substitute should not be chosen solely from nominal yield strength or a short equivalence table. Chemistry, toughness, weldability, thickness limits, dimensional tolerances and inspection requirements may differ. Purchaser or engineering approval is required for alternatives.

The purchaser remains responsible for material selection, design approval and confirmation that the specified material is suitable for the finished component, manufacturing process and service environment.

Information required for a quote

Provide S255, the governing standard and revision, product form or profile, dimensions, condition, quantity, tolerances, impact or mechanical testing, material test report, marking, permitted alternatives and U.S. delivery ZIP code.

Fe is the basis.
According to GOST 27772-88 for steel smelted in electric furnaces, the content of N ≤ 0.012% is allowed. In steel, an increase in the mass fraction of manganese to 0.085% is permissible. It is allowed to change the chemical composition at the manufacturer's choice: the Mn content is 0.80-1.10%, while the Si content is 0.05-0.15%; the C content ≤ 0.20% and Mn = 0.80-1.10, with a Si content of 0.15-0.30%. The mass fraction of residual (acid-soluble) aluminum in C255 steel with a manganese content of up to 0.85% and silicon of 0.15-0.30%, intended for sheet and broadband universal rolled products, should be at least 0.020%.
