General Characteristics

Heat resistance (or scale resistance) is the ability of an alloy to resist oxidation at high temperatures, when the chemical bonding of metal molecules and oxygen occurs. Increasing the heat resistance is achieved by adding chromium and other elements to the alloy, which form a protective film of oxides when heated. This replaces the oxidation process by diffusion of oxygen atoms to the metal through the oxide film layer. The higher the diffusion rate, the faster the oxide thickness on the metal surface increases. Production and application
