Advantages of B88
This tin babbitt has higher sliding qualities, running-in, wear and corrosion resistance, excellent thermal conductivity compared to its analogues. The soft base of alloy includes hard grains with the following characteristics: hardness HB 13-32, high ductility at 100 °C (HB 9-24). Recommended pour thickness over 1 mm, pour t° ≤ 420 °C.

Disadvantages
Babbitt alloys are not resistant to shock loads and vibration, which often hinders the operation of moving parts. The low strength allows the use of babbitts only in bearings with a strong housing based on steel or non-ferrous alloys. B88 is one of the most expensive.

Application
At t;° 460 °C poured bearings and moving parts, designed for high speeds at moderate shock loads. These are turbine bearings, crosshead, frame and whorl bearings of low speed diesel engines; propeller shaft support bearings; turbochargers, turbo pumps, compressors ≥ 500 hp. They are bearings of ship and stationary steam engines of power ≥ 500 kw; bearings of large-scale mechanisms, designed for high speeds and loads at t° ≤ 70 °C (and pressure ≤ 20 thousand kPa under quiet load with circumferential speed ≤ 50 m/s; under shock load ≤ 10 thousand kPa-). These are eccentrics of cone crushers of large crushers, bearings of high-speed pinion stands.
