Titanium — material that Captain Nemo lacked to turn legendary Nautilus into eternal ship. It is unlikely that alloy will appear in near future that would be alternative to such strong and light metal as titanium.
Advantages
Titanium rods have high heat resistance, wear resistance, easy weldability. Plasticity — at level of copper wire. Low creep — similar to stainless steel. Titanium bar is characterized by exceptional corrosion resistance in moist soil, sea and chlorinated water. Corrosion rate is less than 0.002 mm/year. Remarkable resistance to oxygen chloride, chlorine oxide, nitric acid at elevated temperatures, in petroleum products, mixed with acidic potassium and sodium at concentration of up to 40%, in boiling solutions of 20% NH3 OH, in molten sulfur up to 240 °C, in industrial gas and SO2, in aqueous solutions of H2 S and sulfate salts, caustic soda.

Disadvantages
Cost of titanium rods is quite high due to complexity of production technology. Strength, heat resistance of titanium significantly complicates processing.
Manufacture
Following alloys are used: VT 1−00, VT 1−0, OT 4−0, OT 4−1, VT 3−1, VT 8, VT 8 m, VT 8m-1, VT 9, VT 5, VT 5- 1, VT 6, VT 6s, VT 6h, VT 14, VT 20, VT 22, VT 23, VT 18u, VT 16, VT 25u, TC6, 3 M, PT3 V, alloy 19, 5 V, alloy 37. Production is normalized by following OST: 1−90 173, 1−90 006, 1−90 266, 1−90 201, 1−90 202, 1−92 062, GOST 26 492 and such specifications: 1−5-401, 1- 805−014, 1−92−117, 1−805−042, 1−5-045, 1−805−132, 1−805−019, 1−92−22, 1−92−131, 1−805- 178, 1825−216−7 510 017, 1−805−012.1−805−239. Manufacturing methods for titanium rods vary by application. Used pressing, forging, rolling transverse screw (PVP) or high-quality rolling. Production is regulated by following standards. Hot rolled bar with unrefined surface (OST 1 90 173−75, GOST 26 492−85). Bar is mechanically calibrated and ground (OST 1 90 201−75). VT16 bar for production of fasteners by turning and hot heading (OST 1 90 202−75). Forged bar (OST 1 90 107−73), pressed (OST 1 92 020−82). Large-sized bar is produced by rolling forged billets (OST 1 90 266−86). Bar for shipbuilding (OST 1 92 062−90). Rolled bar from titanium alloys of general purpose (TU 1−83−21−79). Surface can be polished as well as honed. Products can be measured, unmeasured and multiple measured length with maximum deviations within unmeasured.
Marking
Titanium bars produce normal and high quality. Latter, according to GOST 26 492−85, is marked with letter «P». For example: VT-5.P. Conventional quality titanium bar — supplied without additional markings.
Storage
Titanium hire is stored in covered warehouses or under canopy, where adequate protection against mechanical and other types of damage is provided. In this form, titanium rolled can remain indefinitely.
Using
Production of parts of light, reliable, durable — for airplanes, helicopters, submarines, cars. Acid resistance and corrosion resistance of bar are of decisive importance in petrochemistry and refining industry, and titanium biological inertness in agricultural, food industry, medicine, and jewelry.
