Characteristics

Grade 03Х17Н14МЗ refers to highly alloyed steels of austenitic class. It is used in the manufacture of units and welded structures which are involved in the production of caprolactam, urea, in aggressive environment of sulfuric acid, boiling phosphoric acid or 10% acetic acid. This steel is used for manufacturing of mixers and lining of urea synthesis columns, and in caprolactam production - for manufacturing of cyclohexane oxidation reactor.

The production of 03Cr17N14M3 grade is regulated by the following requirements

1) GOST 5632-72 "High-alloy steels, heat-resistant heat-resistant corrosion-resistant alloys. Grades".

2) GOST 25 054-81 "Forgings of corrosion-resistant alloys and steels. General technical conditions".

3) GOST 5582-75 "Heat-resistant heat-resistant corrosion-resistant thin-sheet rolled steel. Technical conditions".

4) TU: 14-1-240-72; 14-1-692-73; 14-1-1183-74; 14-1-1154-74; 14-1-1541-75; 14-3-396-75; 14-1-2134-77; 14-1-2132-77; 14-1-2144-77.

Physical properties at 20°C

Density 7.75 ^g/cm3; thermal conductivity 29.4 W/mK; electrical resistivity 0.73 ^Ohm/mm2/m; modulus of elasticity 0.195 ^N/mm2 and0.0019 ^N/mm2 at 300°C; coefficient of thermal expansion α = 16.1x10-6/°C at t° 20-200°C and 14.4x10-6/°C at t°20-300°C.

Corrosion resistance

According to the following specifications: 14-1-1154-74, 14-1-69 273, 14-1-1541-75, 14-1-2144-77 and 14-1-240-72) steel 03X17H14MZ resists intergranular corrosion in 65% of boiling _HNO3 (specific gravity weight 1.41 ^g/cm3), which is prepared according to GOST 11 125-73. Duration of tests by all above mentioned TU, except TU 14-1-2144-77, is 3 cycles of 48 hours on the samples in the quenched state. According to TU. 14-1-2144-77 the test duration is 5 cycles of 48 hours each. The rate of corrosion in this case must not exceed 0.5 mm/year.

According to GOST 5582-75 this steel is characterized by resistance to intergranular corrosion by the method of DU GOST 6032-89; according to TU 14-1-1847-76 test the resistance to ICC conducted by the method of AMU GOST 6032-89. In all cases the resistance to IGC is checked on the specimens after quenching.

Technological parameters

Hot plastic deformation occurs in the temperature range of 1150-900°С; the steel itself is characterized by high plasticity both at hot and at cold deformation. Heat treatment, i.e. quenching in water at 1060-1100 °C, is used to remove build-up after hot or cold deformation.

Welding

Steel grade 0ZH17H14MZ characterized by good weldability by any type of welding. When manual arc welding, submerged arc welding or automatic welding in shielding gas are used electrodes OZL-20 with wire 03X17H14M2 (EP551). Note that the strength and corrosion resistance of welds in this case the same as that of the base metal. Welded joints of this steel in urea synthesis medium have corrosion rate of 0.041-0.11 mm/year, they are resistant to intergranular corrosion and knife corrosion.
