Relevance
Alloy 03X18H11 refers to chromium-nickel austenitic steels. It is melted in vacuum induction, open electric arc furnaces with the use of low-carbon ferroalloys, or by vacuum decarburization of the alloy, by gas-oxygen refining of liquid metal.
It is used in chemical engineering in the production of pipelines and capacitive welded equipment operating in contact with 70% nitric boiling acid, as well as in contact with adipic acid and ammonium nitrate. Welded joints of this alloy are not prone to knife corrosion. The recommended pressure of the medium is up to 5 N/mm², the operating range of welded structures at temperatures from -196 to 300 °C.

Application
Alloy 03Cr18N11 is recommended for use at a boiling point in nitric acid 70% concentration, at t ° 80-140 ° C in 45-80% concentration, adipic acid, ammonium nitrate, as well as in environments that contain nitrous gases at 80 ° C. Alloy 02Cr18N11 according to GIAP is recommended for production of heat exchangers, tail gas preheater, condenser-oxidizer.

Welded specimens were tested under purge column operating conditions for nitric acid of weak concentration (temperature 130 °C, 56-60% HNO3, continuous 10 390 h).
Technological characteristics
The steel has good processability for plastic deformation in hot and cold state. The temperature range of hot deformation = 1100-900°C. The heating temperature of the ingot for rolling is 1240-1260°C. Softening heat treatment is used in order to remove the hardening at the end of plastic deformation. Grade 03X18N11 is well welded. When manual arc welding with electrodes brand OZL-22 with steel wire Sv-01H18N10. When automatic welding in shielding gas or submerged arc welding wire Св-01Х19Н9 or Св-01X18Н10 is used. In this case the corrosion resistance and strength of welded joints is not lower than that of base metal. Welded joints can be annealed to remove stresses without fear of their susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. The welded connections of 02X18N11, 03X18N11 grades in contrast to 08X18NYuT steel are not exposed to knife corrosion in the oxidizing environments. According to the conclusion of NIICHIMMASH the steel grade 02X18N11 and its welded joints have the same technological, corrosion and mechanical characteristics as the grade 0Х18Н11.
