Characteristics of the current industry standard

The marking of roll steel is established by the technical norms and requirements of OST 24-13-90. According to this standard rolls should be made of quality, high quality and extra high quality steel grades listed above

Steel grade is set by the manufacturer in consultation with the consumer, based on the specific conditions of the roll.

The designation of quality categories, (GOST 4543-83): qualitative - without designation, high-quality - A, especially high-quality - Sh (steel is made by electroslag remelting).

Steels vacuum degassed by out-of-furnace method are referred to high-quality steels.

In high-quality and especially high-quality steel the phosphorus content should not exceed 0,025%. Sulfur content in high-quality steel should not exceed 0.023%, in high-quality steel it should not exceed 0.015%. Macrostructure and fracture of the sample rolls should not contain metallurgical defects - cracks, flokens, shrinkage voids and slag inclusions visible without magnifying devices.
