How to determine the mass of bulk rolled brass

GOST provides for the production of brass rolled products of three types of cross-section - round, square and hexagonal. If it is necessary to perform an accurate calculation of the mass M of one linear meter, the following formula is used. M = γFl, where γ - density of brass, kg/m3, l - length of a bulk brass billet, m, and F - the area of its cross section. To determine F you can use one of the following formulas:

  • F = 3.14r2 - for bars of circular cross-sections (r is the radius of the bar);
  • F = a2 - bars of square cross-sections (a - side of a square);
  • F = 2.598a2 or F = 0.866h2 - for rod/circle of hexagonal cross-section (a - width of edge, h - diameter of circle inscribed in hexagonal cross-section).
