Production
The basic technology of brass wire production is multiple cold (less often - hot) drawing. After each pass through the drawing machine nozzles, the semi-finished product is subjected to a recrystallization annealing process. This is done to relieve internal stresses in the alloy, and to reduce grain size. The diameter range of the brass wire is defined by the technical requirements of the customer, but usually lies between 2mm to 15mm, whereby wire up to 10mm diameter is supplied in coils only, and wire over 10mm diameter in coils and rods.
Application
In practice, the following grades of brass alloys are mostly used:
- L90, LO90 - highly plastic brasses designed for plastic deformation on automatic presses. They are used for metalware production;
- L72 - brass of high ductility, well stamped in cold state. Such alloys are used for making details of bodies of rotation with complex configuration;
- L68 - brass with rather high ductility is used for production of heat-exchange apparatuses;
- LS59, LS58 are used for parts production, produced by metal-cutting machines.
Brass wire is also used in the manufacture of welding nets, filters, as well as in welding works.
