Features of marking

According to GOST 801-78 in the marking of bearing steels necessarily contains the letter Sh, followed by a letter and number designation of the percentage of chromium (X), silicon ©, manganese (G), molybdenum (M) and other constituent elements. This is shown in the following table:

The percentage of metallurgical impurities (phosphorus and sulfur) is limited in the composition of steels, which should not exceed 0,025...0,027%. Traces of copper (up to 0.3%) and nickel (up to 0.25-0.30%) are permitted in the bearing steels.

Application

All bearing alloys contain a high percentage of carbon and by the totality of their physical and mechanical properties can be classified more as tool steels. When considering their application, it should be noted that bearing steels are divided into two groups:

  2. Steel alloys used for bearings operating in chemically aggressive environments as well as at elevated temperatures.

The first group includes steels of ShKh15, ShKh15SG, ShKh20SG, ShKh4, ShKh6, ShKh9 grades. The second group includes steels of the 95X18SH type produced in accordance with company specifications. Here the letter "Sh" means that the given steel is produced using the technology of electroslag remelting. When using the method of vacuum-arc remelting in the marking of steel appear the letters Sh.
