Facing of worn out places in slide bearings
This technology is used in the repair of bearings. Firstly, the necessary preparatory operations are performed, the quality and thoroughness of which will determine the strength and durability of the cladding layer. The sequence of operations is as follows:
- Remains of the old babbitt are removed from the defective places, for which gas-oxygen torches are used;
- The liner body is prepared for surfacing: its surface is thoroughly cleaned from oxide and scale using hard metal brushes;
- The surface that is prepared for surfacing is degreased, and then it is thoroughly washed with hot water;
- All process holes in the clad item are plugged, and then the surface is tinned using fluxes.
The surfacing and subsequent machining of the bearing housing is carried out as follows. The allowance required for subsequent machining is set, and then each of the shells is welded separately, one at a time. Next, surface slag and oxides are removed, as well as the previously supplied technological plugs. Processing of built-up surfaces
After surfacing, the surfaces are recapped, followed by checking the points of contact. The parts in contact are placed "in the paint" and the actual clearances are checked with a feeler gauge. Installation of tightening bolts is not required. As a result, the possible displacement of the bearing halves, which should not exceed 0.02 mm, is set. Having checked that the scraping is carried out qualitatively, the bearing shell is placed in the lathe and the part is checked there for possible radial run-out, which should not exceed 0.3...0.5 mm. Then, the insert working surface is turned over to the dimensions, which are indicated in the component drawing.
Quality control
Final quality control involves visual inspection of the surface. It should have a silvery white color, without any yellowish spots (this is a sign of material overheating during babbitt surfacing and the process must be repeated). Pores, sinks, and foreign surface inclusions are not allowed. The final stage of testing is the kerosene test: the item is placed in a container with kerosene for a few hours, then removed, thoroughly wiped with a rag, chalked up the joints and placed under load. If traces of kerosene are found on the chalk marks after the test dwell time, then the bond between the babbitt and the metal is incomplete and the item needs to be re-floated. If all the test results are positive the liner is subjected to final milling with cutting the end surfaces.
