Tin production methods

Are you interested in methods of tin production? Supplier Evek GmbH offers to buy tin (GOST 860-75) at an affordable price in a wide range. We provide delivery of products to any point on the continent. Price is optimal.

Technology of melting

Regardless of the brand of metal, the primary raw material for the production of tin rods, bars or wire from tin are blanks obtained by melting in furnaces. Smelting involves the following stages:

  • The reduction of the ore, the tin stone, by coal in shaft or flame furnaces, producing carbon monoxide as a by-product (it is then used as fuel in auxiliary metallurgical operations);
  • Purification of the resulting primary melt from iron and, to a lesser extent, from other metals. The principle of purification is that the iron, as the heavier metal, remains at the bottom of the furnace, and the tin melt flows out in a thin stream into the mold. Next, a freshly cut wooden pole is immersed in the molten tin. Gases are released from the charred wood that stir the tin vigorously. This causes the impurities in the metal to oxidize and collect on the surface of the molten metal.

Production from recycled tin

Recycled tin is produced from tin plate scrap using either electrolysis or dry chlorine treatment. Supplier Evek GmbH offers to buy a wide range of tin products (GOST 860-75) at an affordable price. We provide delivery of products to any point of the continent. Price is optimal.

Cleaning of primary tin

After performing the considered metallurgical operations, the tin contains quite a lot of impurities that do not allow ensuring the required chemical purity of the metal as per the standard. Technical tin mainly contains iron, copper, lead, antimony, arsenic, bismuth and sulphur. Aluminum, zinc, silver and nickel are also found less frequently.
Arsenic, aluminum, zinc and bismuth have the most negative effect on the mechanical properties of tin rolled products; the anticorrosive properties of tin rolled products deteriorate in the presence of excessive copper. Such rolled products cannot be used for production of semiconductor equipment.

Pyrometallurgy

Pyrometallurgical techniques, as well as vacuum evaporation, are used to clean the metal effectively. During vacuum distillation, depending on the process temperature, the tin melt is almost completely cleaned of arsenic, antimony, bismuth and lead, and the amount of other components is reduced to an acceptable level provided by GOST 860-75.
