Scope of ASTM B446

This specificationa covers descriptions of general requirements for forgings, bars, of nickel-chrome-molybdenum-niobium alloy (UNS N06625) b, nickel-chrome-molybdenum-silicon alloy (UNS N06219) b and nickel-chrome-molybdenum-tungsten alloy (UNS N06650) b.

Heat treatment

• Class 1 treatment (firing) involves using the material at operating temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C).
• Class 2 treatment (re-firing) provides for use of material at operating temperatures above 1100°F (593°C), and increased creep and fracture resistance requirements.

Testing

Alloys shall be subjected to testing - chemical analysis, tensile testing, and hydrostatic or non-destructive electrical testing. Materials must meet the required mechanical properties - tensile strength, yield strength, and relative elongation.

Standardization

The values specified by Astm B446 in units of inch-pound shall be considered standard. Metric values, are mathematical conversions to SI units, which are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
